Arm Liposuction Scars: What Are They Like, and How Do They Compare With AirSculpt®?

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure in which fatty tissue is removed from various body parts, such as the abdomen, flanks, buttocks, thighs, back, neck, and arms, using a suction technique. Liposuction is an excellent option for people who cannot lose fat through diet and exercise.

It can shape your body and increase your self-esteem. Hundreds of thousands of people use liposuction to achieve their body aesthetic goals, but scarring is a significant concern for both men and women.

Where Arm Liposuction Incisions Are Placed

Surgeons typically use three incisions per arm to cover a larger area and allow for complete suctioning.

One of the incisions used runs from the armpit to the elbow. Most fat is extracted from this angle.

The second incision is made medially near the elbow, avoiding the ulnar groove through which the ulnar nerve runs. This allows easy access to the arm's medial fat pad during liposuction.

For access to lower arm fat deposits, a final incision is made in the lateral region of the elbow.

Can I Expect Scars After Arm Liposuction?

Scarring is a natural and unavoidable side effect of any surgical procedure requiring an incision. However, after complete healing, most patients with arm liposuction have little to no visible scarring. This is partly because liposuction incisions are small enough that only a few stitches are required to close them.

Furthermore, surgeons take great care to strategically place incisions in areas easily concealed by the body's natural contours and hidden under clothing. In many cases, patients are unable to identify their own liposuction scars.

There are, however, no guarantees. Everyone's body is unique, and scars can be noticeable.

Arm AirSculpt® vs. Arm Liposuction Scars

arm airsculpt entry points

Now that we've understood that traditional arm liposuction requires several incisions cut with scalpels, thus creating several opportunities for scarring, you'll be happy to hear that AirSculpt® procedures can provide just as beautiful results without them.

Regarding entry point location, one is made on each elbow to provide access to the front and back of each underarm. Another entry point is made on the front of each arm where the bicep meets the forearm. Finally, the third entry point is located in each armpit.

Arm AirSculpt® does not use scalpels, stitches, or needles, sculpting your arms to their ideal shape with patients always remaining fully awake.

Instead of a traditional scalpel, we utilize a dermal punch that forms a perfectly symmetrical two-millimeter aperture, where fat can be extracted easily. The opening is so tiny that no stitches are required; it's simply naturally left to heal post-procedure.

If scars or post-procedure marks form, they resemble a freckle-sized blemish at worst.
