Back Pain and Liposuction: Exploring an Unexpected Treatment

Back Pain and Liposuction: Exploring an Unexpected Treatment

Back pain affects people of all ages. Having an unhealthy spine is evermore common now that we're usually sitting more than eight hours a day on chairs that aren't ergonomic.

The main culprit behind back pain is damaged discs in the spine, and science has found various methods to resolve the condition. Yet, one has been of much interest to the cosmetic surgery community, and it involves injecting belly fat into the discs of the pain to treat back pain.

Spinal discs contain a hard casing and a moist-gel-like interior that's attached to vertebrae above and below. The gel serves as a shock-absorbent for the spin, but that doesn't mean it's unbreakable.

The consistent stress that a spine is subject to, whether due to age or lifestyle, causes the outer layer of the spinal discs to crack and the gel-like section to dry up. When these discs no longer cushion the spine, they become prone to injury, which causes back pain.

Liposution's Relation To Back Pain

What might have been unexpected is now a reality: liposuction and back pain are now somewhat related. According to a report in the New Zealand Herald, researchers are experimenting by extracting fat from the stomach via liposuction and injecting it into the spinal discs to repair any damage and prevent injuries.

It's also interesting to know that fat in the belly area has a high percentage of stem cells, making it the optimal location to harvest fat. A 50-minute liposuction procedure can harvest up to 40 million cells from the abdomen to then be injected into the discs. The stem cells have the function of developing tissues that can help strengthen the spine.

The experiment has been tested on animals, demonstrating that disc height has improved by 26% compared to those injected with placebo.

How Elite Body Sculpture Can Help

While Elite Body Sculpture in Nashville currently isn't offering their advanced form of liposuction to cure back pain, we provide patients with the opportunity to sculpt their backs to their desired appearance.

The back is usually an area storing excess fat for most people. Back AirSculpt® is a minimally invasive process that doesn't use a scalpel, needle, stitches, or general anesthesia to extract fat and sculpt the contoured, curvy figure patients desire.

Here we work under the philosophy of allowing our patients to obtain significant results superior to traditional surgeries without enduring risks or medical complications. Our processes also don't produce noticeable scarring or long periods of recovery.
