In What Layer of the Skin is Cellulite Located?

Cellulite refers to fat pockets that accumulate just below the skin's surface. It typically forms in the hip, thigh, and buttock regions. Cellulite deposits make the skin look like it has several dimples and depressions.

A Brief Background On Cellulite

Cellulite is not linked to excess fat, so even relatively skinny people can have it. The collagen fibers that connect our subcutaneous fat layer to the skin can stretch, break, or shrink, which causes the fat cells to bulge and produce cellulite dimples.

Where is cellulite located in the skin? Cellulite develops in the subcutaneous fat layer, also called the hypodermis. This layer is structurally unique from the other layers because the fat cells are arranged in columns by the surrounding connective tissue fibers.

Your genes can help determine whether or not you have cellulite. Other factors include:

  1. Gender and race/ethnicity

  2. The way your body burns energy

  3. Hormonal changes

  4. Dehydration

Cellulite is not harmful to your health. Most health experts consider it a normal condition present in most women and some men.

How Can Cellulite Be Treated?

Cellulite treatments are generally performed to change the aesthetic of the patient's lower body. Talk to your doctor about treatment options. These include:

  1. Laser treatments use concentrated energy to break the bands that pull at the skin and create cellulite depressions.

  2. Subcision, in which a small knife is instead used to cut the septae bands.

  3. Filler materials stimulate collagen production and soften the appearance of dimples.

  4. Other treatments include carbon dioxide, radiofrequency, ultrasound, creams and lotions, and deep massages.

Some lifestyle tips to prevent cellulite are:

  1. Eat a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fiber.

  2. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.

  3. Get regular exercise to keep muscles tight and bones strong.

  4. Maintain a healthy weight.

  5. To not smoke.

An Optimal Cellulite Treatment With AirSculpt® Smooth

Patients that want to treat their cellulite effectively can achieve outstanding results with AirSculpt® Smooth.

AirSculpt® Smooth is designed to target cellulite on the buttocks and thighs for any skin type while simultaneously offering fat removal from your lower body.

As with all AirSculpt® procedures, we do not use scalpels, stitches, needles, or general anesthesia, allowing you to obtain dramatic results without unnecessary risks.

AirSculpt® Smooth uses the Avéli™ cellulite tool, a mechanical handheld device that can be slid under the skin to unhook septa bands causing cellulite. This device has a light attached, allowing our surgeons to quickly identify the bands pulling on the skin responsible for cellulite depressions.

Unlike other cellulite treatments, you'll most experience minor soreness that will last a maximum of two days while achieving instant results. With this versatile approach, patients can combine their procedure with AirSculpt® on the thighs or buttocks or target cellulite alone.

To start working with the next generation of cellulite removal, call our body contouring center nearest you to schedule your complimentary consultation.
