Is Injection Lipolysis Really Effective?

Submental fullness is the medical term for a double chin, the widespread condition that fuels many's insecurities. While it's an annoyance for several, the stubborn fat pad under the chin became a trending topic around 2015 when several procedures designed to resolve the issue became abundant.

One of these quick fixes is Kybella, an injectable treatment that uses deoxycholic acid as its active ingredient. The acid is naturally produced in our bodies with the function of destroying and digesting our fat cells.

More specifically, Kybella injections dissolve the membranes lining our fat cells, which causes them to empty their contents to be flushed out by our lymphatic system.

The treatment has been FDA-approved after several 20 clinical studies and is now used by several cosmetic centers for its minimally invasive techniques.

Is Kybella All It Is Made Out To Be?

Is Kybella effective? Several years later, the fanfare has subsided, and now the injectable is suffering some backlash.

It was anticipated within the cosmetics industry, but its results have been somewhat underwhelming. Doctors have debated the feasibility of the treatment, given that its effects aren't as exemplary as other treatments.

Kybella is marketed as a non-invasive treatment and a no-downtime alternative to liposuction. It's also known as a 'lunch-time procedure,' meaning that you can supposedly get a treatment done in under an hour during your lunch break and then return to work.

Yet, it turns out that Kybella has a somewhat lengthy amount of downtime relative to the improvements patients can get from it. That's because Kybella requires several treatments, usually about six, with each session being spread a month apart.

Compared to liposuction, which is a one-time procedure, and all of the technological advances in the cosmetic surgery field, one wonders if the time investment towards Kybella is worth it.

Yet, several people argue that the surgery has several risks, but it turns out that Kybella does as well. Common side effects of the injectable treatment are swelling, redness, bruising, numbness, and slight pain. Severe complications can vary, such as nerve damage to the jaw, an uneven smile, asymmetrical results, and severe pain.

Therefore, the question "is injection lipolysis effective?" can be answered with a yes, but there are risks and other elements to consider.

What If My Kybella Procedure Goes Wrong?

If you've undergone a Kybella treatment that has given you unsatisfactory results, such as asymmetrical lumps and valleys on the surface of your chin, you should consider a revision treatment.

Elite Body Sculpture's AirSculpt® Injection Revision is designed to fix and restore your affected chin to its ideal state with the help of our minimally invasive fat removal and transferring techniques.

AirSculpt® patients benefit from us not using a scalpel, needle, stitches, or general anesthesia to treat your botched procedure, allowing for a more comfortable approach than traditional liposuction.
