AirSculpt® vs. Traditional Liposuction

Liposuction Risks: Evaluating Its Effectiveness and Sacramento Alternatives

Liposuction removes fat from the body using a unique instrument with vacuum/suction-like capabilities called a cannula.

The procedure is informally called lipo and is tailored to those that want to contour the shape of their body by extracting fat from specific areas.

The most common areas people use liposuction on to remove this 'fluff' include our thighs, hips, buttocks, abs, and back. Some men and women opt to reduce the size of their arms as well.

What's important to note is that it is challenging to get rid of fat in these specific areas through natural, traditional methods alone. Sometimes a hardworking year filled with squats and bicep curls won't do the trick.

That said, most of these patients end up going to the doctor's office to get the fast, immediate results that they're expecting.

Liposuction Risks and Procedure Recovery

First things first, liposuction is categorized as an invasive cosmetic procedure. Therefore, if undergoing liposuction, you will be put under general anesthesia, and you will feel pain afterward.

Your recovery time depends on what body parts you choose to treat, yet the minimum time you'll have to wait to return to your daily routine is around two weeks.

Common side effects are pain, swelling, bruising, or numbness.

Other severe, but potential risks from traditional liposuction procedures are:

  • Puncture wounds
  • Complications with anesthesia
  • Burns
  • Nerve damage
  • Death
  • Blood clotting
  • Fat embolisms
  • Infection

How Do I Remove Fat With Fewer Risks?

AirSculpt® is a minimally invasive procedure that doesn't use a scalpel, needle, stitches or general anesthesia. It also doesn't produce heavy scarring or bruising, and patients remain fully awake the entire time.

Although risks are always present during surgery, even in minimally invasive forms, this approach reduces many of the traditional hazards with its more gentle technique.

An AirSculpt® Procedure Involves These Steps

The surgeon numbs the area to be treated with an AirPen, a patented device that uses pressurized air to administer medication, omitting needles.

Afterward, to replace the use of a scalpel, a symmetrical two-millimeter opening with a biopsy punch is formed, through which a local anesthetic solution is applied to numb and prepare the fat.

Once the fat is ready for extraction, the specially designed AirSculpt® cannula plucks that fat from the body without harming any surrounding tissues. The cannula is then taken out of the body, and the opening is left naturally to heal, leaving a freckle-sized mark at the end.

It should now be pretty easy to understand why AirSculpt is a better alternative for fat removal than cosmetic offices in Sacramento performing liposuction.
