The Menopause Makeover: What's Included and How Does It Work?
You've probably heard of the Mommy Makeover, but one increasingly popular procedure that has burst onto the scene is the menopause makeover.
As many women know, several changes occur in our bodies during menopause. The menopause makeover offers women a minimally invasive, highly customizable way to regain control over their self-image.
In this post, we'll examine the procedures included in a menopause makeover and how they can help you embrace change confidently.
What Happens During Menopause
During menopause, women's estrogen levels naturally drop, which can lead to the formation of stubborn midsection fat and changes in metabolism. Some women may notice differences in skin elasticity, sagging in their breasts, or increased difficulty losing weight.
These changes are entirely normal. That said, some women may feel overwhelmed or less confident about their bodies during menopause.
The menopause makeover was designed to sculpt different body parts to restore confidence and help you feel like you again.
Why Women Opt for a Menopause Makeover
For some, the changes to their bodies leave them feeling unhappy with their self-image. The goal of a menopause makeover is ultimately not only to refine one's appearance but also to boost the patient's confidence.
Because everybody is unique, this makeover treatment was designed to be highly personalized. Like the mommy makeover, it can include several types of treatments, ranging from fat removal and transfer to skin tightening and facial rejuvenation.
A skilled surgeon will always aim to deliver natural and smooth-looking results tailored to each patient's individual goals.
Procedures Included in a Menopause Makeover
Fat Removal
Liposuction is among the most common options for women looking to sculpt targeted improvements. With next-generation fat removal options like AirSculpt, surgeons enjoy the ability to remove stubborn fat permanently while also helping tighten skin.
It is important to note that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure but can help women address fat that commonly forms on the stomach during menopause. Because menopause often affects fat distribution, liposuction can be a powerful tool for spot-targeting these new stubborn areas.
The results achieved with liposuction frequently encourage patients to adopt healthy lifestyles to maintain their results and often lose weight.
Skin Tightening
Following a fat removal procedure, the skin must snap back to its newly slimmed shape for ideal results. Whether due to hormonal changes during menopause or natural aging, loose skin following liposuction (or loose skin for any other reason) may require an additional treatment to achieve a smooth look.
Two of the most popular methods of improving skin elasticity are with a tummy tuck and Renuvion®.
Tummy Tucks
The tummy tuck is commonly performed alongside fat removal. This surgical treatment is designed to tighten the abdominal wall, address separated muscles, and remove excess skin tissue.
The tummy tuck is considered an invasive procedure and is typically performed with general anesthesia. Patients seeking a less invasive tummy tuck alternative may opt for a mini tummy tuck instead.
Unlike a tummy tuck, which treats the entire abdominal area, the mini tummy tuck focuses on loose skin beneath the belly button. It can be ideal for mothers looking to address a C-section scar. Because this procedure is less invasive, it does not require surgical drains. If you are choosing between the two options, see our post on mini vs. full tummy tucks for more information.
Renuvion®
Renuvion provides surgeons with a minimally invasive way to tighten targeted body parts.
This innovative treatment uses a combination of heat and cold plasma energy to stimulate collagen production and contract existing fibers.
Renuvion can be performed with fat removal treatments like AirSculpt to help patients address stubborn fat and dramatically tighten skin. Although AirSculpt always leaves skin tighter, patients with loose skin due to menopause may require a bit extra tightening to achieve a complete result.
Unlike nonsurgical skin tightening procedures requiring several sessions, this is a one-and-done procedure for loose skin on practically any body part.
Fat Transfer
From sagging buttocks or breasts to a loss of volume, with menopause (and generally speaking, age) comes several other physical changes. As estrogen levels drop during menopause, the breasts can lose firmness and start to sag.
Patients looking to address such issues can opt for either a lift or an augmentation procedure. The breast lift is an option for women who want to remove excess skin and tighten the area.
On the other hand, fat transfers to the breasts or buttocks can restore lost volume naturally while also helping provide some lifting effect. This highly customizable procedure requires fat removal before the transfer step.
Unlike implants, the fat transfer route is considered less risky, as it is less invasive and does not require a foreign material to be placed into the body. Women looking for a dramatic increase in breast or buttock size after menopause, or those without excess fat, may instead be better suited for implants.
Cellulite Reduction
Cellulite can become more apparent as we age and reach menopause. Although it is most common on the thighs and buttocks, cellulite can form on the stomach and other areas in some cases.
Avéli® is a minimally invasive procedure that carefully targets and releases the fibrous cords responsible for cellulite dimples on the thighs or buttocks. This treatment can be performed at AirSculpt as a standalone procedure or in conjunction with other body contouring treatments.
Facial Rejuvenation
Some of the more significant aesthetic impacts menopause can have are on the face and neck regions. Because estrogen helps to maintain connective fibers and promotes skin elasticity, these regions naturally can begin to sag during menopause.
Common issues women look to address include sagging jowls, a loss of facial volume, and fine lines and wrinkles. Options for addressing age-related facial changes include dermal fillers, fat transfers, botox, and face or neck lifts.
Fillers can address wrinkles and bring back lost volume to the face, and they offer little to no downtime. However, the effects of these injections are only temporary, meaning they have to be touched up frequently.
Conversely, surgical procedures like face lifts can deliver dramatic, long-lasting results. These options require a much more abrasive procedure that can require weeks of downtime.
Finally, fat injections in the face are an excellent way to naturally restore volume lost during menopause. By introducing stem-cell-rich fat into select areas of the face, this procedure provides a rejuvenating effect that also addresses fine lines and wrinkles. Facial fat transfers are considered long-lasting to permanent once the final results develop.
