What Do The Scars Look Like After a BBL?

There's no doubt that curves are what's popular nowadays. Having a shapely and round backside is now one of the most attractive features for both men and women, thanks to the influx of Hollywood celebrities and the power of social media.
Nonetheless, achieving a complete rear end through diet and exercise alone isn't an easy task. For others, it can be downright impossible, given that genetics and aging have taken their toll on the aesthetics of their body.
If you're spending hours at the gym and aren't seeing the results you'd like, you might want to consider other options, such as a butt augmentation treatment like the Brazilian Butt Lift.
With newer techniques, scarring is minimized, and downtime is sped up to just a few days. Read on to find out more about the Brazilian Butt Lift technique and details surrounding scarring.
How Does A Brazilian Butt Lift Work?
A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a fat grafting procedure designed to transfer fat from one body area to the buttocks, forming a curvier and more appealing shape.
The Brazilian butt lift is traditionally performed under general anesthesia and takes about 2-3 hours to complete. However, options like AirSculpt allow you to receive a BBL under local anesthesia, reducing the risks associated with full sedation.
Fat transfer to the buttocks is a two-step process. The surgeon begins by extracting fat from an area of the body using liposuction, usually the hips, flanks, or thighs. The fat is then injected into the buttock, layer by layer, to sculpt the shape and volume.
An Example of BBL Scars Over Time: See For Yourself
Below, we feature side images of a patient who received a BBL at Elite Body Sculpture. Their AirSculpt Power BBL™ technique requires smaller entry points than most techniques.
Nonetheless, you can still get a good idea of what the scarring looks like initially and how it changes over time by reviewing her 48-hour, one-month, and three-month images.
The entry point scar resembles a large freckle-sized blemish on her hip 48 hours after her BBL. At the one-month mark, the depth and darkness have begun to diminish, but the size of the scar is roughly the same.
Finally, once she hit the three-month point, the entry point mark filled in completely and now resembles a freckle-like blemish. Most patients enjoy this type of healing and small scarring after a BBL if their surgeon is qualified and uses advanced fat grafting techniques.

What To Expect After A BBL
In addition to understanding how a Brazilian butt lift works, you must have a complete idea of the postoperative period of the procedure.
You'll have to care for two different surgical sites, the buttocks and wherever you had liposuction performed. Patients should expect a level of discomfort, bruising, and swelling during the healing process, but they can typically be resolved with over-the-counter medication and compression garments.
One of the more overlooked steps in the recovery process, but an extremely crucial one, is that you follow your sitting and sleeping position restrictions.
You must avoid exposing your buttocks to pressure for several weeks post-procedure. You want to ensure that the newly transferred fat cells have the best chance of survival by establishing a blood supply and correctly setting in.
You should also use a donut-shaped pillow to help you sit comfortably without affecting the healing process of your buttocks.
Strenuous exercise and physical activities must also be put on hold for several weeks until cleared by your surgeon. Nonetheless, during the first week of recovery, you should already take short walks to promote circulation and fat survival.
The recovery timeline for a Brazilian butt lift varies from person to person. Nonetheless, patients can usually return to work after about 1-2 weeks, depending on the intensity of the workplace. You'll still have to commit to your modified sitting.
Most importantly, you must understand that the final results for your Brazilian butt lift will not be fully apparent until months have passed due to the residual swelling subsiding and the fat having to settle within the buttocks.
What Do BBL Scars Look Like?
What do Brazilian Butt Lift scars look like?
With traditional liposuction, they are usually large enough that they need stitches to heal but should fade over enough time.
It's common for patients to be unable to identify their scars after their recovery, so they shouldn't be very alarmed about their aesthetic outcome.
Most surgeons tend to place the incisions within your body's natural creases so you'll even be more camouflaged as you recover.
Scarring after a BBL depends on additional factors like the technique used and the patient's skin type. Whereas traditional BBLs often use general anesthesia due to the large incisions, advanced techniques like AirSculpt® leave a freckle-sized blemish behind at worst, thanks to the relatively small entry points required.
As Dr. Rollins details above, patients who scar dark may end up with a more noticeable mark, but these are still easily treatable with various methods.
Can I Get a BBL?
Patients that should consider getting a Brazilian butt lift should coincide with the following:
-
They're overall healthy
-
Are non-smokers
-
Have a stable-healthy weight
-
Have enough fat to be transferred.
-
They aren't happy with their results from diet and exercise efforts.
During your initial consultation, the surgeon will evaluate whether you have enough fat to be used for a transfer and discuss your BBL goals. This includes picking a donor site from which to harvest fat for the procedure.
You must have realistic expectations about the procedure and understand that a BBL can only address loose skin to a certain degree by providing a lifting effect. Therefore, if loose skin is a significant issue, you should consider other surgical options, such as a buttock lift.
Elite Body Sculpture Gives Optimal Results

We understand that surgical procedures can be off-putting for some, given the reality that the hazards can include asymmetrical results or an adverse reaction to general anesthesia.
We've got the solution for you right in your city. Elite Body Sculpture and its luxurious office in Nashville now provide the most comfortable and innovative BBL.
The minimally invasive AirSculpt® Power BBL™ gives Nashville-area patients precise results without using a scalpel, needle, stitches, or general anesthesia. Therefore, you can naturally augment your buttocks while awake without worrying about the scars characteristic of a traditional BBL.
Scars with AirSculpt® fat transfers are minimized because we use a small tool called a biopsy punch to create symmetrical, two-millimeter-wide entry points instead of scalpels to cut incisions. If scars do form, they look like mere freckles rather than the more prominent marks that can appear after manual liposuction-based BBLs.
