What To Know About Brazilian Butt Lift Weight Requirements

If you want to add volume or more shape to your backside, you've likely heard about the Brazilian butt lift. Brazilian butt lift surgeries, also known as BBLs, are a popular fat grafting technique designed to reshape and contour a patient's buttocks using unwanted fat from another area of the body as filler.

It's an alternate procedure to buttock augmentation via implants, allowing for an easier and quicker recovery along with more natural results. More and more aesthetic clinics are giving men and women the opportunity to boost their backside with the help of a BBL procedure.

The following article has been curated to give you a general idea of what a BBL procedure consists of and what requirements patients must meet to get one.

The Brazilian Butt Lift

The Brazilian butt lift is a procedure that has recently increased in popularity due to it being a less invasive technique within the cosmetic market. While buttock implants have been around for a long time, the use of inorganic silicone material to augment your backside is becoming outdated due to several factors, including increased risks, the need for removal, and a less natural look and feel.

The Brazilian butt lift, by contrast, uses fat from your own body, which is extracted via liposuction and then inserted into the buttocks to augment its volume.

It's a cosmetic procedure with double the benefits in one process, allowing you to remove stubborn fat and increase your backside at the same time.

Am I An Ideal Candidate For A BBL?

To be considered an optimal candidate for a BBL, you should have healthy skin laxity, given that the skin needs to be slightly stretched to accommodate the new fat within the buttocks. That said, a fat transfer will subtly lift the buttocks as a side result of increasing their volume.

You should also be near your ideal body weight, given that being overweight can increase the risks of adverse side effects. However, with advanced techniques like AirSculpt, plus-sized BBL patients can still receive treatment due to its gentle, wide-awake approach.

The following conditions are typically required of patients to receive this minimally invasive procedure:

  1. They are not currently smoking

  2. They are in good health and have no pre-existing medical conditions

  3. They are not pregnant

  4. Are near their ideal body weight

  5. Have enough fat to be transferred in the process

How Much Fat is Needed for a BBL?

One of the patients' main questions about undergoing a Brazilian butt lift is: "Can I be too skinny for a BBL?". You actually can be, which is why you must have enough fat to accommodate your aesthetic goals.

During the BBL procedure, the surgeon will overfill the buttocks to account for the fact that not all of the grafted volume will remain. The body naturally reabsorbs a portion of newly introduced fat cells; therefore, there are specific BBL weight requirements to ensure ideal results.

That said, we do not recommend gaining weight before a BBL, as you can not dictate or determine where that added fat will form and affect your figure.

If you do not have enough fat for a complete Brazilian Butt Lift, a procedure like the Hip Flip™ can help skinnier patients achieve a rounder backside with less fat needed.

AirSculpt® Offers a Customized BBL

For patients seeking dramatic results with close to no downtime, the AirSculpt® Power BBL™ is a minimally invasive procedure that doesn't use a scalpel, needle, or general anesthesia to transfer fat with unmatched finesse. This patented technology offers precise results that enhance surgeon control and patient comfort for a seamless body contouring experience.

We offer a more authentic result than implants while operating far more gently than traditional liposuction-based fat transfers. Our proprietary cannula seamlessly extracts fat from trouble areas with a gentle plucking motion designed to help preserve the fat and reduce the extent of reabsorption, which is critical for skinnier patients getting this procedure.

Patients remain awake throughout their BBL, avoiding the risks of general anesthesia while working with their surgeons to customize their procedures to their specific bodies and desired results. Even if they don't have enough fat for a complete BBL, our experts can combine targeted fat removal with a modest fat transfer to accentuate the outcome.
