If you want to lose weight naturally, following small but consistent steps almost every day is essential.

You may also experience that no matter how much exercise you do, the weight you have gained refuses to come off. This difficulty is largely the result of other essential areas unrelated to the gym, including eating windows, total caloric input, and lifestyle elements like stress and sleep, which can all come into play.

Several simple yet effective tips exist that you can follow to assist you in achieving a lower weight and healthier body. Keep reading to learn some practical, effective tips for losing weight and keeping it off.

Eat A Daily, Protein-Packed First Meal

Eating a healthy breakfast is paramount for a plethora of reasons. If done correctly, it can assist with your weight-loss goals, boost your metabolism, make you feel more full throughout the day, increase your energy levels, and reduce stress and anxiety.

Studies have demonstrated that those who eat breakfast regularly can lose more weight than those who do not, given that they have a more active metabolism.

You can increase the effectiveness of eating breakfast by consuming protein-rich foods. Studies demonstrate that those who regularly eat protein-rich breakfasts lose more weight than those who do not, as their metabolisms tend to be jump-started, boosting energy levels while increasing satiety. Aim for roughly 30 to 50 grams of protein per meal, getting to about 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight.

That said, understand that your breakfast does not always have to be in the morning. Much of this advice will vary based on your lifestyle and body goals. If you work out early in the morning, it may be quite effective to eat a protein-packed meal right after you finish. However, those who are less active right away can benefit from intermittent fasting, followed by a protein-packed first meal of the day, whenever that may be. Keep reading for some pointers about restricting your eating window frequently.

Restrict Your Eating Window (Time-Restricted Eating)

If you are not already doing so, restricting your eating window can set your weight-loss journey into overdrive. This concept simply refers to eating food only within a fixed six or eight-hour window.

If you eat your first meal at 10 a.m., for example, make sure your last meal comes around 6 p.m. Following this routine regularly is best for getting your body acclimated to your new eating window.

Some people are large proponents of intermittent fasting to start the day. This approach is quite beneficial and can be made easier by consuming caffeine (think black coffee) to limit appetite and drinking things like sparkling water to increase satiety. However, if you prefer to eat earlier in the day, as we mentioned above, that is also great for weight loss as long as you stop eating at a strict cut-off time.

Some main benefits of restricting calorie consumption to a limited period are helping the body burn fat more effectively, promoting less overall caloric consumption, helping avoid snacking, and better blood sugar management.

Tracking Your Calorie Consumption

Counting calories can guarantee weight loss if done correctly. However, some people will try to lose weight instantly by drastically reducing their calories; others may over-exercise to achieve the same results.

Both approaches are ineffective in the long run and will almost always fail. In some cases, those who drastically reduce the number of calories they eat can gain more fat rather than lose it, while those who rely on the gym to work off excess calories may burn out without being able to continue.

If you keep a daily food log, even on your phone, you can track the approximate calories in your meals. This simple step of being aware of what you eat is highly effective in and of itself, but it also helps ensure you are eating wholesome, nutritious meals. You don't need to write down every item you consume but know the approximate amount of calories each meal contains.

Opt for foods that are low in calories and high in macronutrients. Avoid foods high in calories, low in nutritional value, and promoted as "high-fat, low-carb" on their packaging.

While it would be ideal to eliminate these foods from your diet, eating your favorite guilty pleasures in moderation is fine.

It is also essential that you drink plenty of water. Without knowing it, most people are chronically dehydrated, and this has been linked to increasing the number of calories your body stores as fat. Dehydration is also linked to fatigue, headaches, and lethargy, which can keep you from being your best in the gym.

Consistently Exercising

There is no truer statement than "you can't out-exercise a bad diet." Yet, on the opposite end of the spectrum, even if you stick to completely healthy, organic foods, a lack of exercise will prevent your weight-loss efforts from reaching their fruition.

The main principle behind dieting is burning more calories than you consume, and exercise is a critical factor in achieving that goal.

But what kind of exercise should you perform? Generally speaking, any type of exercise is better than no exercise. If you think you have to run marathons and lift like an Olympian, think again. One of the most effective ways to lose weight is by walking often and always. Take regular breaks throughout your day to get steps in or take a long walk after work. No matter what, make sure you reach 10,000 steps per day.

Walking is more effective than running for some people because they do not feel inclined to overeat afterward, which is common after a run. That said, some forms of exercise are more efficient in burning calories and, thus, are better for weight loss.

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is one of the optimal forms of exercise for weight loss. It has been linked to burning more calories than low-intensity exercise while taking less time.

Combining HIIT workouts with a calorie deficit is a fail-safe method of losing weight. Another essential thing to do is ensure you have a high quality of sleep. People embarking on weight loss goals who have trouble sleeping will have a higher body fat percentage than those who do not while recovering less effectively from workouts. The same goes for managing stress, as too much cortisol can lead to a "stress belly" forming.

Eat Dark, Green, Leafy Vegetables

Dark and leafy greens are packed with nutrients but are also low in calories, making them the perfect food for weight loss.

Include green leafy vegetables in your diet, and eat them raw or cooked. Incorporate more salads into your meals, or take the small step of adding greens to your sandwiches.

Leafy greens will help prevent overeating calories and facilitate a healthier digestive system (fruit is another key player in this area). Other healthy foods include beans, which are high in fiber and protein while low in calories. Nuts are also beneficial for weight loss but should be consumed in moderation. They're high in fat and calories, so limit your consumption.

Cut Out Sugar

Regarding non-medical weight loss tips, sugar is an important factor that cannot be understated. In the end, sugar matters for health-related issues beyond weight gain, as it has been linked to more severe health concerns like cancer.

Make a habit of replacing sugary beverages such as soda, juice, and sweet tea with water, and reduce the consumption of desserts.

While we will always advocate a lifestyle of moderation with sugar, it is more complex. If you want to lose weight, you must find a way to practically remove it from your diet. Not only is sugar unideal for your health but also high in calories, even when consumed in minimal amounts.
