Sticking to Your New Year's Fitness Goal: Our Tips

As 2024 nears, millions of us are planning out ways to improve. As they have done for years, Americans use the new year as a chance to start anew.

The most common resolution among the majority of us is to exercise more. In 2019, for example, 59 percent said their main goal this year was to exercise more. Of course, eating more healthily followed closely after with 54 percent, and losing weight at 48 percent. But even though millions of people set these goals, most never stick to them. According to U.S. News & World Report, about 80 percent of New Year's resolutions fail.

The new year is one of the ideal moments to set new goals. While setting fitness goals is admirable and will undoubtedly improve your physical and mental health, it can be challenging. That's why so many people never stick to them.

Below are some actionable ways to ensure you meet and exceed your stated goals.

Ask Yourself Why

Everyone has their reasons for setting goals at the beginning of the year. They may be personal or even health reasons. Unfortunately, sometimes, people feel pressured by society to embark on these journeys. However, it is essential to ask yourself why you want to participate in them. Why is this New Year's resolution so crucial to you? What motivates you to take this big leap and change your life? When you find the reason that drives you, you will be better prepared to achieve your goals.

Set Specific and Reasonable Goals

Yes, your 2024 goal might be to lose weight or exercise more, but those are broad terms. A study found that setting general, nonspecific goals can cause despair. Be specific about what you want to do. Don't just establish that you want to lose weight or hit a new bench press record. Say, "I want to lose 10 pounds this year," or "I want to gain 15 pounds at the bench press for eight repetitions."

That gives you a firm goal to work toward. However, it is essential to set realistic goals. If it's your first time visiting the gym, chances are you'll find it difficult at first. Set small goals and then build momentum. Aim to go to the gym a certain number of times per week. As you make a habit, you can increase the difficulty of your goals. Always celebrate every accomplishment, no matter how small.

Write Down Your Decisions

Once you set a specific and reasonable goal, write it down and put it somewhere you can see it daily. Research has shown that if you write down your goals and share them with friends and family, you are more likely to achieve them than if you don't. Write your goal on a sticker and put it on your mirror. You can post about your goals and progress on social media. Not only will you hold yourself accountable, but you can encourage others to do the same.

Set A Schedule

Another important aspect of keeping New Year's resolutions is setting up a solid workout schedule. Exercise at the same time and place every day. This will help you build a routine and help you form concrete habits. Look at your schedule and find a time of day when you can exercise without disrupting other parts of your life.

Kickstart Your Fitness Goals With AirSculpt®

With New Year's coming around soon, your fitness journey can be kickstarted with the help of AirSculpt® procedures.

If you've struggled to meet your body goals despite putting in constant work, as so many of us experience, consider undergoing this minimally invasive fat removal procedure. This technique removes stubborn fat permanently with a gentle method that minimizes side effects, allowing patients to see their results far more quickly than traditional liposuction. One significant benefit is that you can immediately capitalize on seeing your dream body sculpted in the mirror by using that motivation to stick to your resolutions or fitness goals.

AirSculpt® procedures do not have extensive downtime or an arduous recovery process, so you can easily incorporate a routine into the gym, making your new results permanent. Patients take daily walks the day after their procedure and can return to the gym in as little as two weeks, pending surgeon approval.

AirSculpt® allows for easier lifestyle logistics because it is minimally invasive, meaning that patients remain fully awake as fat is removed with a unique technique that doesn't use scalpels, stitches, or needles.
