Can Cankles Be Eliminated For Good?

The term ''cankle' is pretty offputting, but finding the cause of your wide ankles can do more than help you fit into specific footwear comfortably or stop dreading the look of your calves and ankles. This applies especially well to those who just developed excess mass above their ankles and are looking to improve their overall health.

Here are some reasons that can cause cankles and a few steps to help get rid of them.

Weight Gain

Weight gain is a primary culprit. The more weight you have, the more fat you likely have. This rule often applies to women, given that they're genetically inclined to store fat in the lower portions of their bodies.

If you are overweight and want to reduce cankles naturally, you'll have to make changes via diet and exercise. It's recommended that you do a mix of total body workouts and have specific days to focus on your calf muscles for toning reasons. Additionally, doing cardiovascular exercises will help you burn off calories, which is the best way to lose weight and burn excess fat.

Genetics

If one of your parents has large ankles, genetics could also play a part in you having them. Nonetheless, genetics do not determine how much fat we have, but they do determine where it forms. Patients who are relatively fit but still have cankle fat may want to consider a cosmetic procedure to resolve such concerns permanently.

Fluid Retention

Larger ankles are sometimes a byproduct caused by fluid retention, sometimes due to elevated sodium intake or pregnancy.

While sodium encourages the body to keep water and bloat, pregnancy has the side effect of poor circulation, which can cause blood to accumulate throughout the ankles.

A fix for this issue is wearing compression socks that assist with relieving swelling; to keep the results, you should make substantial changes to your diet.

Focus on not avoiding foods rich in sodium, especially those that are processed and fast foods. It's best that you also prevent dehydration via an adequate fluid intake, so if your pee isn't light yellow or clear, drink more water. Pregnant women should raise any concerns about abnormal swelling with their doctor.

Medications

Medications such as antidepressants, blood pressure medicines, and birth control pills sometimes have the side effect of swelling in the lower body.

If that is the case for you, ask your doctor if you can switch to a different medication to find a treatment that best suits your body.

AirSculpt® Permanently Removes Cankles

If your cankles are a product of excess fat, AirSculpt® can remove them with a seamless, precision-engineered procedure. The AirSculpt® CankCüre™ is a minimally invasive procedure that doesn't use scalpels, needles, stitches or general anesthesia to precisely remove fat from the cankle area.

Our robotically spinning devices can pluck excess fat cell by cell. This element gives our surgeons unparalleled precision and finesse when sculpting a subtle area like the cankles. Even if they are asymmetric before treatment, AirSculpt® will restore even legs with a gradual tapering look from the knee down the calf to the ankle.

Better yet, because fat cells do not regenerate, once your cankles are treated with AirSculpt®, they will not return.
