Why Banana Roll Lipo Has Gotten So Popular and Whether It's Worth Getting

It's hard to fight unwanted fat on your own, especially when diet and exercise seem to fail. But when those unwanted fat cells accumulate in uncomfortable places, things get even bleaker. Liposuction claims to alleviate these conditions, boost patients' self-confidence, and improve their body image. When small pockets of unwanted fat, like a banana roll, appear under the buttocks, some patients want to take control of their bodies and have them removed.

What is a Banana Roll?

A banana roll is a slang term for a small pocket of fat just below the buttocks. Although many consider a banana roll a sign of large buttocks, even the leanest women can have this unwanted fat pocket. However, weight does, in fact, affect the size of the banana roll.

The banana roll may have long been a source of discomfort for some women, but the concept is relatively unknown to many others. The recent attention to the buttocks of some celebrities has undoubtedly increased the number of requests for banana roll fat removal via liposuction. The number of patient requests for this procedure in some parts of the United States has tripled in recent years, especially near beaches and hot spots.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure that allows patients to say goodbye to excess fat accumulated in unwanted areas. Fat that accumulates around the waist, arms, back, buttocks, and other regions can make patients feel uncomfortable, negatively affect their self-image and make it difficult to wear the clothes they want. Liposuction is a long-established way to restore natural body contours when fat deposits cannot be removed through diet and exercise.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia in most cases, but some practices now offer it under local. First, the skin is numbed with needle injections, and then a tumescent fluid is injected into the area to facilitate the removal of fat cells and numb the banana rolls. After incisions are made at the treatment site, the surgeon will insert a small cannula tube and suction the excess fatty tissue. How much is removed depends on your consultation with the plastic surgeon and the results you want to achieve. Other liposuction techniques may also be used to achieve these results, so discuss your options during your liposuction consultation.

How Can Liposuction Treat Banana Rolls?

Liposuction can remove unwanted fat cells in almost any problem area of the body. Although it is not an area usually treated with liposuction, the banana roll is not very difficult or harmful for the patient to target the banana roll with liposuction.

Because of the location of the banana roll, it is common to combine this procedure with liposuction on other body parts. It is such a small area that it can be treated independently, so many women choose to have their buttocks, hips, thighs or other body parts reshaped simultaneously.

AirSculpt® Offers A Better Form of Banana Roll Removal

Patients that have struggled with banana rolls are consistently trying to find ways to get rid of them but often have their aspirations stopped when they realize that traditional liposuction carries several risks and potential complications.

Banana Roll AirSculpt® alleviates such concerns with a minimally invasive procedure that doesn't even use scalpels, stitches, needles, or general anesthesia to remove stubborn fat permanently. This patented technique enters the banana rolls gently with automated technology, plucks fat away by the cell, and enables patients to heal without stitches while returning to work the next day. Contrast that with traditional banana roll liposuction, which uses antiquated tools to scrape away fat with minimal precision.
